What is it about Angry Birds?

Does anyone else find it slightly strange how much attention has been attracted in the media and around the world by Angry Birds? Don’t get me wrong, it’s a very polished game that’s for sure, and a lot of fun to play, but it’s amazing how much attention it’s received even though it’s really nothing more than the hundreds or even thousands of flash based games that are on the internet at the moment.

It surprises me that games which would be considered average as browser based games are suddenly classics and high earners when they are ported to mobile phones. Maybe people are more forgiving of games when they are on a mobile phone and are less likely to criticize. Maybe people always would have been willing to pay 50p for a flash based game as long as it was polished and reasonably fun to play. I think the success of Apple’s store has even surprised them – who would have thought that games such as Angry Birds, which are relatively basic and focus on one dynamic, could have gone global and even have a film based on them. It’s fantastic that it’s happened – and I like how game makers are allowed to be much more creative in games for mobile devices than they can be with multi million pound budgets. Ultimately I think the success of app stores will be a good thing for the games industry.

Pointless Expensive Phone

Do you like the look of the Nokia C7 but want a version that stands out? Or do you just have a lot of extra money to spend? If so then –un like me – you might be attracted by the Nokia Oro. It’s an exclusive new phone that’s a mixture of the C7 with a better and more attractive design and is marketed – according to the Nokia marketing department – at the Middle East and areas of Russia where their premium phones sell the best.

It costs around four times as much as the C7 so what do you get for your money? It’s based on Symbian and comes with the latest version known as Anna. It also has a custom theme so that the GUI matches with the golden design of the phone, something which might be attractive to people who have far too much money to spend on a mobile phone and are much too interested in looking good for their own benefit.

So, why is the phone called the Oro? Apparently Oro means gold, and the handset comes with an 18 carat cold palate surrounding it which will certainly make it stand out. The back of the phone has a leather finish, along with a sapphire to protect the home button. It could look worse, I admit, but I just can’t see why anyone would buy it. It definitely isn’t a phone I’d be interested in getting.

White iPhone – Are You Excited?

Some big news in the cell phone world at the moment is that Apple will be releasing a white version of the iPhone. To me this doesn’t appear particularly newsworthy, but it seems to have got a lot of people very excited. Apparently it should already be available in the UK and will be available around the rest of the world very soon.

So why are people so excited about this piece of non-news? The main reason is that the iPhone 4 was meant to go on sale with a white version when it was first released over ten months ago. There were problems with the manufacturing of the phone, however, meaning that the white version had to be delayed. What could have delayed a different color by nearly a year I’m not sure but it must of been something major!

There’s no arguing that the white iPhone doesn’t look good though because it does. When the iPhone was first released people were amazed by how sleek and modern it looked. The iPhone 4 attempted to “reinvent” it to make the phone more of a grown up gadget rather than feeling like a toy, but the white completely changes the feel of the phone. It’ll be interesting to see how Apple change their main product in the future to stop people getting bored.

If you want to get a white iPhone then you shouldn’t have any problem finding one as most companies are going to stock them.
